Sustaining Our Communities

Sustain Your Community Logo

Last year, EnviroCentre launched its Sustain Your Community project, with funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. The overall aim of the project is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by engaging residents to implement initiatives that meet community needs.  With its localized focus, the project is working towards long-lasting impact around issues related to energy and water conservation, local food and sustainable transportation.

In just over a year, each of the communities has already created significant positive change right where they live – so much so the project has decided to concentrate its efforts in each of these three communities and expand their geographic ranges.  This will allow the project to grow while simultaneously building on the existing momentum, experience and community involvement.

During the course of the project, Sustain Your Community collaborates with community residents and draws on EnviroCentre’s strength as Ottawa’s go-to source of practical services and programs that help individuals and organizations conserve energy, improve environmental health and act more sustainably.

“We are already excited by the work done in the first year by each of the three partner communities and how residents have taken charge and are making the very changes they want to see in their own communities to make them more sustainable and address community environmental priorities,” exclaims Elyse McCann, EnviroCentre’s Manager of Community Sustainability Programs.
